Very pleased to annouce some new mayors to the land:
Adam2486 is the mayor of the brand new town, springs, in the north of the realm
Lolapple is mayor of the thriving Westisle
Asassins100 is mayor of the outback town of EastLand
Congrats all. New players can join any of these towns if they so wish to build their homes there. all have different quirks and town style.
I think most minecraft server owners get the updating screen fear… If you didnt know minecraft 1.2.5 is out., and with it came the old “would you like update? yes / no” screen when minecraft started. After the major 1.2 update i get a bit of a panic on now… Will this be a big revision? Will this break all my plugins? Will i have to rebuild my server… again?
Luckily this isnt the case and i didnt even have to update the revision of craftbukkit immeditately. now this is an update i like. So much eaiser when things just get along.
Ok to outline whats going on – BYTE started as a normal server where anyone can pop on a build to their hearts content. then came the evil griefers and destroyed the town. so we rebuilt it. then it was destroyed again and rebuilt….. on this went till i got fed up
The server then had to be set to ask for permissions to build…this isnt ideal as i couldnt be about all the time to add these new users and once added they could stuff things up anyway, after a load of griefing (mainly from my ops) i decided a more ingenious method was needed…… along came towny. PERFECT
it is a little limiting but i could enable tnt again in the wild with wild rebuild and also let people come on and build straight away but only in their plots. so everyone wins 
server is protected from dimwits and people can build away.

After an unpredictable few months with the major releases of 1.2 swiftly followed by a couple of revisions MC has settled on 1.2.4 and the kind chaps at Bukkit have only yesterday got out a recommended build for 1.2.4
BYTE has updated its server to this build today! hurrah. any little kinks and errors should be ironed out now. plugins have all been updated and are working fine (if you find any errors please let me know) and the transition to a Towny based server is now complete!
so all in all a sucessful week.
I have recently got into a little game called minecraft. fantastic game – one of the best i have ever played for the simple reason you can go anywhere and do practically anything….
Coupled with the fact that there are so many different bits you can do and mods to load make this game almost unending!!
I play in single player which is good fun, but then i thought! ah ha! maybe i can play the same, but online and with friends… hence this site and the server i have setup.
It is just a home based server at present to see how it fares and how many people i can accomodate. If sucessful i’ll trial moving it onto a hosted server for extra speed.
But for the moment here we are.

The Admin Blog here is really so i can post items regarding the site, what i hope to do and where we are in the pipe line for upgrades and new features.
Unfortunately from previous incarnations of this site i have learnt that allowing people the sign up for their own blog is not a good idea, and these annoying people who spam everyone’s website appear and ruin it for everyone. So request only.
